Stainless steel is a non-ferrous-yard metal even though it is a steel alloy, because it is bought on its nickel and chrome content, not as plain iron. Common forms are sinks, counters and restaurant equipment, sheet, tube and pipe, tanks, and fittings.
Stainless is graded by grade and by how clean it is. Non-magnetic grades and magnetic grades are handled differently, and stainless with attached steel brackets, plastic, or heavy grease is graded on what is actually stainless. A magnet test at home tells you very little on its own, so do not sort by magnet alone — bring it in and we grade it with you.
Deer Park Recycling is our non-ferrous yard at 54 Kinkel St, Westbury, NY 11590. Every load is weighed and graded in front of the customer. We are family-owned and have done this since 1994.
If you are not sure whether a piece is real stainless or plated steel, call (516) 333-6145 or send a photo before you load it. Pickups and roll-off containers are available across Long Island and all five NYC boroughs.
